A 73-year-old driver from Somerset County died of his injuries on Sunday, July 21 — five days after a single-car crash on Interstate 287 in Middlesex County, authorities said. Bill Schocklin was driving south near milepost 8.8 in Pisscataway at about 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 16 when his Nissan veered off I-287, struck a guard rail and overturned, according to New Jersey State Police Sgt. Jeffrey Lebron. Schocklin, of the Somerset section of Franklin, was ejected from the Nissan, Lebron said. He was brought to an area hospital with moderate injuries, he said. A lucky lottery player won $643,000 on a scratch ticket in Cape May County, officials said. The $1,000,000 Diamond Spectacular ticket was purchased at the Wawa on West Spruce Avenue in North Wildwood, the New Jersey Lottery said in a news release on Monday, July 22. The game has sold three tickets that won $1,000,000 in its history. Those were purchased in Colonia, Elmwood Park, and Springfield. More than seven million tickets have been printed for the game.

Rachel Minaya, who is married to former Mets general manager and current Yankees executive Omar Minaya, was found dead in their New Jersey home over the weekend, the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office confirmed on Monday afternoon. Police in one Ocean County town are seeking information in a fatal motor vehicle crash. Stafford Township police said only that the crash happened near Route 72 and Mill Creek Road around 7:40 p.m. Saturday, July 20. Police have identified the 19-year-old swimmer who drowned in a New Jersey lake over the weekend. Daniel Miranda, of San Marcos, Guatemala, was taken to Inspira Hospital in Mullica Hill, where he was pronounced dead, Elk Township police said. Two people died, and dozens of others sickened in a Listeria outbreak tied to deli meats in several states, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). A Jackson Township man has been charged with murder in the death of his roommate, according to authorities in Ocean County.
