Small Dog Rescued After Falling Through Ice In Raritan: Authorities (

A small dog is on the mend after she fell through the ice at a pond in Raritan Township on Thursday, Feb. 6, authorities said. At 3:08 p.m. a rescue squad was dispatched to Sun Ridge Pond at Sun Ridge Drive and Hart Boulevard after a dog was in the water after falling through thin ice on the pond, Flemington-Raritan First Aid and Rescue Squad said. Two rescuers with appropriate protective equipment went out on the ice and quickly rescued the small dog, authorities said. The dog was reunited with their owner and was reported to be warming up and recovering quickly, authorities said.

Officer Hospitalized After Rescuing Husky That Fell Through Ice: Police
A husky is lucky to be alive after he was rescued after falling through the ice in Chester on Tuesday, Jan. 21. Police responded to a 911 call on Old Chester Road after the husky, Ghost, fell through the ice and was in distress, Chester police said. The two officers, Louis Capone and Sgt. Stephen Notte, crawled onto the ice to save Ghost, using a snare police. Capone fell into the freezing cold water but Sgt. Notte was able to pull both Capone and Ghost out of the water, police said. A dog is safe after they fell into a heating vent in Sussex County on the evening of Friday, Jan. 10, authorities said. At 7:24 p.m., officers responded to Hedden Road in Green Township on a report of a dog trapped in ductwork, Jeffrey Lebron, a spokesman for the New Jersey State Police said. Upon arrival, police discovered the small dog had fallen into a heating vent, Lebron said. The dog was safely removed from the vent, and no injuries were reported, Lebron said.

It's a New Year and a new family for Pickle, a kitten from Newton. Pickle was brought to the Newton Animal Control in November after a Good Samaritan saw her being attacked by birds. Police are investigating after a woman abandoned a black hound mix in need of urgent medical care at a Sussex County animal shelter on Thursday, Dec. 26, officials said. At approximately 10:55 a.m., the woman, described as having black hair and wearing a green Jets hoodie and mask, entered the shelter and threw the dog’s leash at a staff member. Lightning Strike Causes Fire At Turtle Back Zoo, Officials Say
A North Jersey zoo erupted in flames after being struck by lightning on Wednesday, Aug. 28, officials said. West Orange responders got a call from the Turtle Back Zoo saying its Sea Turtle Recovery Building had been struck by lightning around 9:45 p.m., a spokesperson for the town said. Two dogs were killed in a New Milford house fire early Tuesday night, authorities said. The residents weren't home when the blaze broke out in the kitchen at the back of the Voorhis Avenue home and quickly spread shortly after 7 p.m., New Milford Police Chief Brian Clancy said.
