Officers responded to the Rodeway Inn on Route 3 East on Sunday, March 2, at 3:19 p.m., after receiving a report of a victim being held hostage inside a room, according to Secaucus Police Chief Dennis Miller.
When police arrived, they found the man inside and immediately removed him to safety while detaining two men at the scene, authorities said.
Investigators determined that Kevin Bazemore, 44, of Hackensack, physically restrained the victim and refused to let him leave, while Brandon Bialek, 39, of Lodi, allegedly sat in front of the door, holding a large hypodermic needle to prevent the victim’s escape, police said.
Inside the motel room, officers spotted narcotics and drug paraphernalia strewn in plain view, prompting detectives and K-9 officers to execute a court-authorized search, authorities said.
Police recovered over an ounce of suspected methamphetamine, along with suspected cocaine, GHB (Gamma Hydroxybutyrate), and various prescription drugs, investigators said.
“This is a vivid example of how the various divisions and units of the Secaucus Police Department work collaboratively to support one another toward our common goal, and I am extremely proud of their work,” Chief Miller said.
Both Bazemore and Bialek were arrested and charged with kidnapping, conspiracy to commit kidnapping, and criminal restraint, police said.
Bazemore was additionally charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, while Bialek faced weapon possession, drug possession, and distribution-related charges, authorities said.
The suspects were lodged in the Hudson County Jail pending court proceedings.
These charges are accusations, and the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
