Small NYC Earthquake Felt By North Jersey Residents: USGS

A 1.7 magnitude earthquake in Astoria, NY was felt all the way up in North Jersey on the morning of Tuesday, Jan. 2, according to the US Geological Survey.
The earthquake was felt in Pompton Plains, Parsippany, West Orange, Union, Holmdel, Fort Lee, Ridgewood and Paterson, the USGS map shows.
According to NBC4, FDNY firefighters responded to reports of small booms called in by residents south of the Roosevelt Island Tramway sometime before 6 a.m.

Massive Winter Storm With Snow, Ice Could End Sunny Week In Northeast

Forecasters are following the first winter storm of the season for the Northeast, expected to arrive this weekend, AccuWeather reports.
The outlet said the storm, moving in on Saturday afternoon, Jan. 6 and lingering through Sunday, Jan. 7, could be the most significant storm that the region has seen in years.

The holiday weekend will be mostly dry with mild temps before a post-Christmas storm moves in over the Northeast on Tuesday night, Dec. 26, according to AccuWeather.

Rain from a Sunday, Dec. 17 storm closed roads and delayed school openings across New Jersey on Monday, Dec. 18.
Thousands of residents were without power as of 9 a.m.
According to the PSE&G outage map, the following areas did not have power:

These NJ Towns Got The Most Rain, Snow In Weekend Storm
The National Weather Service has released rainfall totals from the weekend storm.
Between Sunday morning, Dec. 10 and Monday morning, Dec. 11, the area that got the most amount of rain was Deerfield with 4.45 inches, then Flemington/Hopewell, with 4.29 inches. Franklin Lakes saw 4.09 inches, the NWS says. Flanders only got .13 inches, and Florham Park only had .38 inches of rain.
High Point got 5.1 inches of snow, according to the NWS, the most across the state, while Wantage saw 5 inches and Hardyston saw .4 inches.
