Man Shoots, Kills Ex-Girlfriend In South Jersey Murder-Suicide: Prosecutors
A man shot and killed his ex-girlfriend in a murder-suicide in Vineland, authorities said. The 21-year-old woman identified as "M.R." and the 22-year-old man identified as "J.C.S." died in the shooting on Monday, Aug. 26, Cumberland County Prosecutor Jennifer Webb-McRae said in a news release. Vineland police responded to a report of shots fired at a home on Roosevelt Boulevard at around 6:03 p.m. Officers found the man and woman suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. A local South Jersey police sergeant cherry-picked child porn images for himself from a case that his department was investigating, a grand jury indictment charges. Suspended Vineland Police Officer Christopher Ortiz, 39, of Estell Manor "requested from a subordinate and obtained via email" at least 17 images from a child pornography investigation for unauthorized use, New Jersey Attorney General Matthew Platkin said. A wrongful death lawsuit has been filed against the Vineland Police Department in the 2015 death of Philip White. The trial begins on Thursday, Oct. 6 in U.S. District Court in Camden. Authorities have identified the Vineland High School boy shot dead on Thursday, May 26. Anthony Torres-Sanchez was killed in the shooting, according to Cumberland County Prosecutor Jennifer Webb-McRae. The shooting was not a random act, she said.
