Nearly 20 people have been arrested in a major crackdown on drugs and illegal guns in Atlantic City, authorities said. The Atlantic City Police Department announced the 19 arrests in a news release on Wednesday, Nov. 27. A weeks-long operation targeted drug activity and "quality-of-life issues" in the neighborhoods surrounding Florida, Bellevue, and Texas avenues. Two wanted men were arrested after being accused of having a gun and methamphetamine in a rideshare vehicle in Atlantic City, authorities said. Atlantic City police responded to a report of an armed man on the 2800 block of Pacific Avenue on Friday, June 28, the department said in a news release. An officer found 40-year-old Matthew Murphy of Egg Harbor Township and 47-year-old Nathaniel Rodgers of Atlantic City entering a rideshare vehicle. A 62-year-old man from Ocean County jumped to his death from an Atlantic City parking garage, authorities said. Patrol officers found the man next to the Caesars Colosseum parking garage on the first block of south Michigan Avenue. Atlantic City police are seeking any information on a shooting early Monday, authorities said. At 12:10 a.m, patrol officers responded to the AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, City Division, after a man arrived at the emergency department suffering from a gunshot wound, police said.
