Abused, Neglected 'Lucky' Rescued By Local Police, Animal Welfare Center In NJ An abused and neglected dog found by police investigating a crime on Christmas Eve is fortunate to be alive. So his adoptive name makes perfect sense. Officers from Irvington found the dog they named Lucky so severely injured that a leg had to be amputated. More Than 100 Neglected Cats Rescued From NJ Hoarding Situation More than 100 neglected cats were rescued from a hoarding situation at a home in South Bound Brook, rescue officials said. Animal control officers from St. Hubert’s Animal Welfare Center were called in to assist local police after a neighbor complained about a foul odor coming from the home, St Hubert's said.  Dozens of cats and kittens were subsequently found living in unsafe and unsanitary conditions, officials said. Hunterdon Central High School Junior, Varsity Lacrosse Goalie Alexea Karpinski Dies, 17 Hunterdon Central High School junior and varsity lacrosse goalie Alexea Karpinski died Nov. 21. She was 17. Born and raised in Raritan Township, Karpinski was known for her love of sports, particularly lacrosse. She played as goalie for the Hunterdon Central Red Devils as well as for the Triple Threat Elite Club Team, her obituary says. Karpinski had a goal of playing D1 lacrosse while pursuing an exercise science degree. She wanted to become a professional athletic trainer, her memorial says. 130 Animals Seized In Illegal Union County Puppy Mill More than 130 animals were seized from an illegal puppy mill run from a Scotch Plains home that authorities said was in deplorable condition.
