Attempted Car Theft Reported Near Gov. Murphy's Middletown Mansion
There was an attempted car theft at a home near Gov. Phil Murphy's mansion near the Navasink River in Middletown, authorities said. At approximately 3:25 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 11, there was a break-in at a garage that is in close proximity to the governor’s house, Middletown police said. The suspects tried to break into the home's garage and steal a Range Rover. A neighbor spotted them, and they sped off in a white BMW SUV, police said. UPDATE: Lodi Schools Supt. Douglas Petty punched a woman in the head on a Seaside Heights street, then brawled with a man who came to her aid, police charged. A Heights police officer reported seeing Petty, 46, of Morris Plains, punch the woman in the head with a closed fist near the corner of Sumner Avenue and Boulevard shortly before 1:30 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 25. Video Shows Police Rescuing Dog From Hot Car On Jersey Shore
A dog locked in a hot car for nearly 45 minutes was rescued by police officers this week in Ocean County (scroll for video). The small, white dog appeared to be okay after the tense rescue on Tuesday, Aug. 30 at Sherman Ave and Ocean Terrace in Seaside Heights, as reported by Jersey Shore Fire Response. Bomb Threats At 3 Walmarts In Central Jersey Unfounded
There were bomb threats reported at three Walmart stores in Central Jersey, authorities said. The Monday, July 18 threats came at about 3:30 p.m. at 1126 Route 9 in Old Bridge, at the Edison Walmart on Route 27 and at the East Brunswick Walmart on Route 18. Union Beach Officer Killed When He Struck Telephone Pole
An off-duty Union Beach police officer was killed when he struck a telephone pole, authorities said. Detective Cpl. Timothy Kelly, Jr., 29, died in the crash. He was described as a "rising star" by his department. The single motor vehicle crash occurred at 1:57 a.m. on Sunday, July 17 on State Highway 36 West just past Grand Avenue, according to Atlantic Highlands police. An Englewood Cliffs police officer rescued an assault victim, then subdued her assailant with help from backups, authorities said. The victim fled to safety after Officer Marc Krapels came upon the assault on Johnson Avenue while on patrol, Detective Lt. Ronald Waldt said.
