Man Identified In Deadly Train Strike Near Jersey Shore Bridge On New Year’s Eve Officials have released the identity of the Ocean Township man who was hit by a New Jersey Transit train and killed on New Year's Eve in Middletown. Dilip Shah, 77, was identified as the victim who died on Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2024, according to a NJ Transit spokesperson.  Shah was struck by North Jersey Coast Line train No. 3361 near the Navesink River bridge at around 5:54 p.m. None of the 220 passengers and crew members aboard the train were injured. Kayak Fisherman Found Dead In Jersey Shore River: State Police A man fishing in a kayak was found dead in a Jersey Shore river, authorities said. Diego Ferreira, 37, of Long Branch, was found dead in the Navesink River in Middletown, a state police spokesperson said. Investigators said Ferreira was fishing in the river at night on Monday, Mar. 25. Ferreira was reported missing to state police at around 5:22 a.m. on Tuesday, Mar. 26. His body was recovered later that day. The Coast Guard, Middletown and Rumson police, and Sea Bright Fire Rescue helped the state police marine services bureau in the search. Water Search For Missing Emotionally Disturbed Kayaker In Central Jersey First responders in Monmouth County were called to search for a missing person on Friday, who possibly had been out in a kayak, authorities said. An empty kayak was found about 11 a.m. on the Middletown side of the Navesink River in Red Bank, according to initial reports. That is directly across from the Fair Haven Yacht Works, where an emotionally disturbed person had been reported missing.  New Jersey State Police were called to assist Fair Haven police in the water search, a NJSP spokesman said.  This is a developing news story. Deadly Bull Sharks Sighted In Jersey Shore River Several bull shark sightings were reported in the Navesink River in Central Jersey, local police said. People reported seeing the shark in the area of the river near Navesink Avenue, Rumson police said Thursday. The New Jersey Division of Fish and Wildlife advised that no sightings have been confirmed but "there is a possibility that sharks could be in our local waterways," police said.
