Moonachie PD: 'Shoot Me!' Cornered Car Burglar Shouts
“Shoot me!” a Paterson car burglar shouted at a Moonachie police officer who’d chased him down before dawn Wednesday, authorities said. A homeowner flagged down Officer Robert Bauer on Jackson Place around 12:49 a.m. saying he’d scared off a man trying to get into two cars in driveway, Police Chief Richard Behrens said. Bauer radioed a description of the burglar to Officer Sean Mulligan, who spotted a vehicle with its brake lights shining in the driveway of a Joseph Street home, Behrens said. A manhunt was under way for an ex-con with a 25-year criminal history who crashed a stolen car twice while being pursued by Hackensack police Thursday morning. Antonio Singletary, 48, was behind the wheel of a 2017 Lincoln MKZ that Officer Frank McCall tried to pull over shortly before 9 a.m., Detective Capt. Darrin DeWitt said. Moonachie police nabbed a Hackensack ex-con with a 25-year criminal history moments after he’d smashed the window of a car and grabbed a purse, authorities said.
