A Hackensack mom was arrested after she entered a Bogota school, pulled a fire alarm and ran down the street, authorities said. Marcela Gonzalez, 36, was seized her near the Lillian M. Steen Elementary School on West Main Street shortly after 2:30 p.m. last Wednesday, March 1, Police Sgt. Geoffrey Cole said. The 43-year-old gunman who killed three students and wounded five at Michigan State University before turning the gun on himself Monday, Feb. 13 appears to have New Jersey ties. Homeless Man Sets Himself On Fire On Jersey Shore: Police
A homeless man set himself on fire in Lakewood, authorities said. The 43-year-old man reportedly called 9-1-1- and said he was feeling suicidal and set his sweatshirt on fire, Lakewood police said. He suffered minor burns to his stomach and chest at the New Jersey Transit Bus terminal at 200 First Street at about 11 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 26, police said. Emergency responders transported the man to a local hospital for treatment of his burns and psychological screening for his mental health.

A suicidal man was unconscious on the bathroom floor, a belt tied around his neck, when Lyndhurst Police Chief Richard Jarvis found him on Christmas Eve. A 59-year-old Elmwood Park man died by suicide on a borough street Thursday morning, authorities confirmed. The man's body was found outside on Parkview Avenue near the intersection of Willow Street around 10:30 a.m. Oct. 27, Elmwood Park Police Chief Michael Foligno said.
