A 28-year-old Black Lives Matter leader accused of simple assault during an August protest had the charges against him dismissed. Jamaal Holmes, of Toms River, was charged with simple assault after police said he punched Robert Lay, 68, in the face during the protest. Holmes said he was simply protecting himself and never punched anyone, according to earlier news accounts. On Friday, Ocean County Bradley D. A Burlington County man surrendered to police after hours of negotiations with a SWAT team from the roof of a friend's home whose family he threatened to kill, authorities said. It all began on the 100 block of Carnation Drive in Deptford Township Friday morning, when a 26-year-old Medford man began destroying property and breaking windows at the home of one of his acquaintances, authorities told NJ.com. Jailed Medford Man Charged With Fatally Shooting Pemberton Victim, 64, In Head
A 50-year-old Medford man being held on weapons charges in the Burlington County Jail was charged in the fatal shooting of a Pemberton man, authorities said. Kenneth Ryan was shot in the head outside of his Apache Trail home in the Browns Mills section of Pemberton Township Jan. 20, Burlington County Prosecutor Scott Coffina and Pemberton Township Acting Police Chief David King said.
