Pedestrian Struck, Killed By NJ Transit Train; Service Suspended
A fatal pedestrian crash suspended service to NJ Transit's North Jersey Coast Line Friday, Aug. 18. The crash happened near the Aberdeen-Matawan station just after 7 a.m., an NJT spokesman said. The crash involved North Jersey Coast Line train 3320, which departed Bay Head at 5:55 a.m. was scheduled to arrive at Penn Station at 8 a.m. The train struck and killed the man just past Aberdeen-Matawan station near Cliffwood Avenue in Aberdeen, the spokesman said. UPDATE: A passenger in a vehicle fleeing a home invasion died after a collision with a Long Branch police cruiser driven by an officer responding to the call, authorities said. The call of an armed break-in on Elmwood Avenue near MacArthur Avenue came in at 3:59 a.m. Monday, Aug. 14, New Jersey Attorney General Matthew Platkin said Tuesday. Service was suspended along one NJ Transit line due to a tree that fell into overhead wires Friday, Aug. 11. It happened around dawn in Middletown, disrupting service to the North Jersey Coast Line. Police have identified the missing swimmer whose body was recovered at a Monmouth County reservoir over the weekend. Jose M. A Monmouth County man who admitted to killing a woman in his Long Branch home has been sentenced to 30 years in New Jersey State Prison, authorities said. Three men including two brothers were sentenced in connection with a drug investigation, authorities said. Paul Anderson, 31, of Long Branch, was sentenced to six years in New Jersey State Prison for the sale and possession of cocaine and a weapons offense, according to Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Friends are rallying for a Yankees cameraman from the Jersey Shore who was seriously hurt by an errant baseball. Pete Stendel, 68, of Long Branch was diagnosed with an orbital fracture to his left eye and has since been released from the hospital, reports said.
