A Ramapo College student told police that she was kidnapped by her boyfriend at knifepoint on the Mahwah campus, then escaped after he made her drive to the Woodbury Common mall in New York to get ski pants. The 19-year-old commuter student said she'd returned to her car from class shortly before 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 13, when Pawel Sliwinski popped up from behind the front seat, Mahwah Police Capt. Alysha Menzies "always had a song in her head and her heart," a loved one wrote in tribute as word spread that the music tragically and unexpectedly had stopped. Menzies, 27, of Garfield, was driving a sedan that apparently slammed into the back of a flatbed tow truck on westbound Route 3 near Route 120 in East Rutherford shortly after 4 a.m. Friday, May 6, responders said. A 27-year-old Garfield woman who was pronounced dead at the scene of a fiery overnight crash near the Meadowlands "always had a song in her head and her heart," a loved one wrote in tribute.
