An illegal and abandoned campfire started a massive wildfire that burned for three days in Ocean County, authorities said. Residents in Ocean and Burlington counties can expect smoky skies due to a wildfire that's been burning since early July, the New Jersey Forest Fire Service said on Sunday, Aug. 25. Firefighters were battling a 5,000-acre wildfire in Bass River State Forest in Burlington County, authorities said. The New Jersey Forest Fire Service is working to contain of a wildfire burning in the area of Allen Road. The wildfire had reached 5,000 acres in size and was only 5o% contained, fire service officials said late Thursday, June 1. Wildfire Destroys 257 Acres In South Jersey, 85% Contained
A wildfire continued to burn in Burlington County overnight, authorities said. The New Jersey Forest Fire Service was making progress on the fire, which covered 257 acres in Washington Township. The fire was about 85% contained on Wednesday morning April 19, fire officials said. Overnight crews worked to monitor and improve containment lines in addition to extinguishing any hotspots near the fire perimeter. Route 542 had reopened. A wildfire that broke out Tuesday, July 12 at Wharton State Forest is 100 percent contained, according to the New Jersey Forest Fire Service. UPDATE: Crews got 75% of a Ramapo Mountains wildfire doused before breaking again until morning. The New Jersey Forest Fire Service initially estimated that the wildfire covered 50 acres.
