: Suspicious Devices Found In Fort Lee Were Discarded Household Items
UPDATE: What at first were considered suspicious devices found in Fort Lee on Wednesday turned out to be a pressure cooker and other discarded household items, authorities said. Police were called around 11:40 a.m. after a cooker was found atop a newspaper box near a bus stop on Anderson Avenue near Forest Road, Capt. Ricky Mirkovic said. A 75-year-old woman was hospitalized and 59 other apartment house tenants evacuated during a three-alarm fire in Ocean County, authorities said. The fire gutted a third-floor apartment at George J. Conway Towers on Chambers Bridge Road on Saturday, according to Brick Township police. : Fierce Fire Roars Through Three Passaic Homes, Displacing Dozens
An off-duty firefighter alerted residents to a gas-fed blaze that ravaged three homes Saturday morning in Passaic, displacing nearly three dozen people. More than 120 firefighters responded to the fierce four-alarm blaze, which roared across the multi-family dwellings on Oak Street after breaking out shortly after 8 a.m., responders said. Ocean County Library Evacuated, Hazmat Units Respond
The main branch of the Ocean County Library in Toms River was evacuated and closed Thursday afternoon because of a hazardous materials incident, police said. A malfunctioning backup battery for the Washington Street library's computer system caused noxious odors that triggered a hazmat response, Toms River police said. "Earlier this afternoon there was an odor in the basement that turned out to be a battery malfunction issue," police announced on Twitter.
