What the sleepy-eyed homeowners found at 1:30 a.m. Saturday were two good Samaritans who'd been driving by and saw some trees on fire. Matthew Blackwell of Teaneck and Donnae Cushnie of Englewood, both 24, first dialed 911, then made sure residents in the Midland Avenue townhouse community were aware of the danger. Update: Tractor Trailer Driver Airlifted After Overturning On Route 287 In Edison UPDATED: A 59-year-old driver was extricated from his overturned cement truck in Edison and airlifted to a local hospital, authorities said. Police, firefighters and EMS responded to the southbound side of Route 287 along the ramp to the New Jersey Turnpike about 10 a.m. Friday, state troopers said. The driver, who's name was not released, was awake at the time of transport and the ramp remains closed, Sgt. Lawrence Peele, a spokesman for the New Jersey State Police said on Friday afternoon. The 35-year-old Bergenfield worker for Arrow Tree Service in Old Tappan was nearly 30 feet up when he fell and tree limb landed on top of him at a Waiku Road home off Carlton Terrace at 8:40 a.m., Police Chief Jacqueline Luthcke said. Man Struck By Rockland-To-Hoboken Train A man was hospitalized after he was struck by a commuter train Sunday night in Paterson. The Main Line #1732 train had left Suffern at 9:07 p.m. and was due to arrive in Hoboken at 10:19 p.m. when it struck the man just west of the Paterson train station shortly before 10 p.m., NJ Transit’s Lisa Torbic said. Responders said they got the victim out from under the train and took him to nearby St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center. None of the 16 people were injured and service wasn’t affected, Torbic said.
