A gunman was killed and a local police officer in Mercer County wounded multiple times in a shootout following a domestic violence incident Friday night, New Jersey's top law enforcement official confirmed. A 911 domestic violence call brought Hamilton Township police to an Orchard Avenue home around 10 p.m. March 8, New Jersey Attorney General Matthew Platkin said on Saturday. The man who shot and killed his ex-girlfriend before killing himself was a retired Atlantic City police officer, authorities confirmed. William Beattie, 47, retired from the police force on Feb. 1, 2010, according to public records. Police were called to Ogden Road in Deptford at 6:50 p.m. Monday, Nov. 28. An Atlantic County man killed himself after fatally shooting his Gloucester County girlfriend, authorities said. Police were called to Ogden Road in Deptford at 6:50 p.m. Monday, Nov. 28. They found the bodies of the resident, Erin Gatier, 47, and William Beattie, also 47, of Landisville, inside, according to the Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office. A pedestrian killed in a hit-and-run crash in South Jersey was convicted of sexual assault of a child, NJ Advance Media reported. The crash victim, Paul F. Margand, 65, of Deptford Township, served as a Catholic priest in Nebraska in the 1980s before his conviction, the outlet said, citing a report by the Nebraska attorney general. An off-duty Deptford Township police officer is accused of trying to strangle a woman during a domestic violence dispute, according to published reports. Myron V. Ford, 36, was arrested and charged on Thursday at his apartment by Deptford police, NJ Advance Media says citing court records and a criminal complaint.
