Jersey Shore Contractor Failed To Build Home, Took $65K: Prosecutor
A Monmouth Beach man, who had previously been the owner of a residential construction company, has been sentenced to two years probation, authorities said.
The former contractor pleaded guilty to stealing thousands of dollars from a client who had hired him to build a single-family home in Ocean Township, according to Acting Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago.
Mihkel Grunbaum, 49, was sentenced on Friday, Nov. 4. Grunbaum also was ordered to immediately pay $65,000 in restitution to the victim.

A 51-year-old contractor from South Jersey has been arrested for taking nearly $75,000 for a construction project then blowing it in Atlantic City, a new boat and a new car, authorities said.
An investigation into Richard A. Smith Jr., of Williamstown, began in December 2021, after a Riverton resident told police that Smith, who owns Beyond Renovations LLC, took two payments for wok on an addition, Burlington County Prosecutor Scott Coffina and Riverton Police Chief John Shaw said.

South Jersey EMS, Firefighters Battle Apartment Blaze, Possible Explosion
Burlington County EMS, firefighters and police responded to a four-story apartment building in Evesham Township on Wednesday afternoon on a report of an active fire, authorities said.
An apartment complex is under construction at 101 East Route 70 in Marlton, they said.
The initial call, which included a report of a possible explosion, came in about 4 p.m., authorities said. The fire originated in a fourth-floor apartment, and may have spread to the building's attic. according to initial, unconfirmed reports.
The fire was reported to be under control by 5 p.m.
