Fire Breaks Out At Jersey Shore Waterfront House Under Construction
A waterfront house under construction caught on fire in Avalon, officials said. Avalon firefighters responded to the house on the 4600 block of Fourth Avenue at around 10:10 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 24, the borough said in a Facebook post. The three-story lightweight wood frame was on fire with heavy flames on the second and third floors. No injuries were reported in the fire. Crews had the fire under control in about 75 minutes. Child Intentionally Breaks Seagull's Wing With Baseball Near Jersey Shore Hotel: Officials
An animal control group was looking for whoever intentionally broke a seagull's wing near a beachfront hotel in Avalon, officials said. Shore Animal Control responded to a seagull injured near ICONA Avalon, the Seaville company said in a Facebook post on Sunday, Aug. 25. A child reportedly threw a baseball at the shorebird and broke one of its wings in front of the Dune Drive resort. Many coastal areas of New Jersey are under the threat of moderate flooding during high tides over the weekend, forecasters said. The National Weather Service issued a coastal flood warning on Friday, May 10 for coastal parts of Atlantic, Burlington, Cape May, Cumberland, and Ocean counties. Repairs To Beach's Erosion 'Hot Spot' Approved In Jersey Shore Borough
A Cape May County borough has approved a plan to fix erosion-damaged parts of the beach in time for the summer. Avalon is expected to begin a sand back passing project on or around Monday, May 13, the borough said in a Facebook post on Tuesday, Apr. 30. Crews will move about 55,000 cubic yards of sand to beaches in Avalon's north end that suffered erosion during winter storms. Kayakers Rescued By Firefighters In South Jersey
A pair of kayakers clung to one craft until they were rescued on Sunday, March 5, authorities said. At about 10:45 a.m., Stone Harbor Fire Department was dispatched to assist North Wildwood Fire Department with a water rescue.
