Disturbing details have been revealed in the arrest of an Atlantic City high school teacher accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a former student. Joseph A. Scalfaro, 47, of Absecon, allegedly sent the 17-year-old girl coded messages, kissed her in his classroom, NJ Advance Media reports citing court papers. A Cumberland County man has been found guilty of killing a woman before dismembering and burning her body, authorities said. Dennis Parrish of Vineland was found guilty of murder and desecration of human remains on Monday Aug. 1 after a jury trial, according to Cumberland County Prosecutor Jennifer Webb-McRae. A 27-year-old man from the Jersey Shore was sentenced to seven years in New Jersey state prison for setting a home on fire, authorities said. Jamal Preston of Egg Harbor Township was sentenced as a result of a previously entered guilty plea to aggravated arson, according to Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer. Authorities say a 37-year-old man who was brandishing a gun at a Dollar General Store refused to comply with police before he was shot by an officer. On Tuesday, May 24, at 9:35 a.m., Absecon and Pleasantville police responded to the store in the 700 block of New Road, Absecon for a man armed with a gun inside the store. Police in Atlantic County seek the public's help finding a runaway teenager. Darlene Cross, 14, was last seen on Monday, May 9, at approximately 6:30 p.m. She ran away from her foster home on Ohio Avenue in Absecon, police said. Darlene is approximately 5’ 8”. Absecon Man Killed Crossing Major Intersection Wasn't In Crosswalk: Police
A 50-year-old man died after being struck by a car on White Horse Pike in January, authorities said. Samuel Bayley, of Absecon, was struck while crossing the street by a 2008 Hyundai Tucson heading east at the intersection with Haddon Avenue around 6 p.m., Jan. 24, local police said. Bayley was not in the crosswalk, which was a contributing factor in the crash, authorities said. The roadway was reduced to one lane for approximately four hours while the crash was investigated. A 58-year-old pedestrian died on Sunday after being hit by a car while crossing a highway in Atlantic County, authorities said. A motorist from Galloway was driving a 2008 GMC Envoy west on Route 30 just after midnight when he reportedly struck Christopher Burtt of Massachusetts, according to Absecon police.
