A crash on Route 1 in South Brunswick caused lane closures and disrupted traffic during the midday commute, officials said. The crash on Route 1 North near Black Horse Lane shut down the right lane and shoulder of the two-lane roadway on Friday, Dec. 13, according to the state Department of Transportation. The crash was first reported at around 11:25 a.m. Authorities worked to clear the scene as delays built in the area. Drivers were urged to find alternate routes or prepare for slower travel. UPDATE: The Essex County Prosecutor's Office has confirmed an off-duty Newark Police Sergeant was the person who fatally struck and killed Jairo Rodriguez. The sergeant was not named. A 53-year-old Newark Traffic Control Officer was killed after being struck by a vehicle on the early morning of Thursday, Dec. 12, authorities said. Steven Marinero, an 18-year-old Plainfield resident died on Tuesday, Dec. 10 after suffering injuries in a car crash on Saturday, Dec. 7, according to a fundraiser set up to support his family. A 19-year-old hockey player from Bergen County was killed after his car caught fire on Route 80 in Warren County on the evening of Sunday, Dec. 1, authorities said. Two people are in critical condition after a car crashed into a tree in Bloomfield on the evening of Sunday, Nov. 17, authorities said. Driver Injured After Vehicle Overturns: Fairfield PD
A driver was injured after the vehicle he was driving overturned on the afternoon of Sunday, Nov. 3 in Fairfield, authorities said. At 12:13 p.m., officers responded to a single car motor vehicle crash on Hollywood Avenue near Francaville Drive, Fairfield police said. The driver ran off the roadway and struck a roadway before the vehicle overturned, police said. The crash is currently under investigation, police said. Driver Flees From Crash That Killed Passenger On Route 9: Prosecutor
A 47-year-old North Plainfield man was killed in a single-vehicle crash in Woodbridge on Saturday, Oct. 25 in which the driver had fled from, authorities said. Mario Ortiz Bonilla was found dead in the front passenger's seat of the 2017 Kia Sportage on Route 9 and Green Street in Woodbridge just after 9:05 a.m., Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone and Woodbridge PD Director Robert Hubner said.
