The incident happened off the Caribbean island of Roatán, north of the Honduran coast, on Monday, March 17.
Honduran musician Aurelio Martinez, age 39, was among the victims.
Five people survived, according to the Honduras National Police.
A video released by police shows responders pulling one of the survivors from the water.
Martinez, known for his interpretation of punta rock, belonged to one of the last generations steeped in Garifuna tradition., according to the Kennedy Center, which noted that, "These traditions encompass the African and Caribbean Indian roots of his ancestors, a group of shipwrecked slaves who intermarried with local natives on the island of St. Vincent, only to be deported to the Central American coast in the late 18th century."
Punta rock emerged in Belize in the 1970s.
Roatán is part of the Bay Islands of Honduras.
