At 10:47 p.m., firefighters responded to a residence on the 300 block of County Route 601 after the homeowners discovered heavy smoke condition in the residence after waking up, Montgomery police said. Both were able to evacuate the residence and were transported to a nearby hospital for smoke inhalation, police said. A dog was killed in the fire, police said.
