Police responded to 25 Dakarla Dr. in Middletown, at approximately 6:48 a.m. after receiving reports of a structure fire, according to Middletown Township Police Deputy Chief Paul Bailey.
Officers arrived to find an active blaze, and units from the Middletown Township Fire Department were dispatched to battle the flames, Bailey said.
The fire resulted in one fatality and one injury, authorities confirmed. The injured individual was transported to Hackensack Meridian Health Jersey Shore University Medical Center for treatment, the deputy chief said.
A joint investigation into the cause of the fire is currently underway, led by Middletown Township Police, the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, and the Middletown Township and Monmouth County Fire Marshals Offices, officials said. Authorities have not released additional details at this time.
