Woman Dumps Dog At Sussex County Animal Shelter: 'Sorry, His Name Is Roscoe'
Police are investigating after a woman abandoned a black hound mix in need of urgent medical care at a Sussex County animal shelter on Thursday, Dec. 26, officials said. At approximately 10:55 a.m., the woman, described as having black hair and wearing a green Jets hoodie and mask, entered the shelter and threw the dog’s leash at a staff member. Car Catches Fire In Woods: Frankford Township Fire Department
A vehicle became engulfed in flames in the woods in Sussex County on the evening of Saturday, Dec. 14, authorities said. At 10:41 p.m., firefighters were dispatched to assist with a car fire one mile into the woods in Sandystown Township, the Frankford Township Fir Department said. Newton Woman Gets Three Years For Dealing LSD: Sussex County Prosecutor
A 31-year-old Newton woman was sentenced to three years in prison on Friday, Dec. 13 for distributing LSD, authorities said. Dana Vail had previously pled guilty to the charges after being arrested in January following an investigation, the New Jersey State Police Strategic Investigations Unit, Acting Sussex County Prosecutor Carolyn Murray, said. Undercover detectives conducted two controlled purchases of approximately 10,000 milligrams of LSD from Vail and during a subsequent search of her residence, police found additional quantities of LSD, Murray said.

Sussex County Man Sentenced For Unlawful Possession Of BB Gun: Prosecutor
A 24-year-old Montague man learned his fate on Friday, Dec. 6, after pleading guilty to unlawful possession of a BB gun and possession of heroin with intent to distribute, authorities said. Zachary Minter was sentenced to three years probation after serving 373 days in county jail, Acting Sussex County Prosecutor Carolyn Murray said. Minter must also engage in substance abuse treatment and pay $1,330 in mandatory fees and penalties, Murray said. A 21-year-old Sussex County man had to be airlifted to a hospital after an ATV crash on the evening of Saturday, Oct. 19, authorities said. At 10:57 p.m., police responded to a property on East Shore Culver Road in Frankford Township after a Honda Fortrax ATV entered the roadway, lost directional control and the driver fell from the vehicle, Jeffrey Lebron, a spokesman for the New Jersey State Police said. The driver, a Branchville resident, sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to an area hospital, LeBron said. The crash remains under investigation, Lebron said.

Antique Car Damaged in Sussex County Crash: Firefighters
An antique car suffered some scrapes in a car crash on Sunday, Oct. 13 in Sussex County. At 4:41 p.m., the Frankford Township Fire Department was dispatched to Route 206 and Broad Street for a car crash with injuries, firefighters said. Three people were evaluated for injuries and first responders dealt with a fuel spill from one of the vehicles, firefighters said. The injured people declined additional medical attention, firefighters said. “We were sad to see such a beautiful antique get damaged, but glad everyone was okay,” the Frankford Township Fire Department said.
