Police: Ridgefield Park Pedestrian, 79, Struck Killed By Westwood Driver
A 79-year-old Ridgefield Park pedestrian who was struck by a van while in a crosswalk Friday died of her injuries, authorities said. The 67-year-old Ford van driver from Westwood made a left into Sima Nightingale as she crossed at the corner of Main and Mount Vernon streets shortly after 9:30 a.m., Police Lt. Art Jensen said. Nightingale was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center and rushed into surgery but succumbed to her injuries, Jensen said. Another Arrest Made In String Of Bergen County Gas Station, 7-Eleven Robberies
Bergen County detectives have nabbed another Bronx man who they said is responsible for a string of gas station and convenience store robberies -- thanks once again, in part, to social media. Genaro Collado, 19, is charged with robbing Exxon stations in Englewood and Ridgefield Park and 7-Elevens in Elmwood Park and Rochelle Park earlier this year. Firefighters Make Quick Work Of Teaneck Restaurant Blaze
Firefighters doused a small blaze at a Teaneck Caribbean restaurant on Thursday. A firefighter was taken to a local hospital for treatment after he tripped over a hose and injured his wrist at the Golden Krust in a small shopping center on Teaneck Road at Bedford Avenue, Township Manager Dean Kazinci said. The two-alarm fire broke out shortly after 1 p.m. and was quickly extinguished, he said. A worker was injured when a fierce fire blew through an auto body shop Saturday afternoon in Little Ferry, authorities said. The blaze broke out at Chizzy's Truck & Auto Repair on Bergen Turnpike off Route 46 around 2 p.m. It quickly went to two alarms. A Ridgefield Park man was sentenced Friday to 15 months in federal prison for his role in a scheme to defraud mortgage lenders out of hundreds of thousands of dollars. Dennys A. Tapia, 55, took a deal from the government rather than go to trial, pleading guilty to a single count of conspiring to commit bank fraud last December.
