Teen NJ Tutor Helps Students Around The World Ace SATs With Viral TikTok Videos
Leon Wang admits learning has always come easily to him. But the rising Montclair High School senior says he's long watched his peers struggle. That's why he began helping them on the side as early as elementary school. He's been doing it ever since. When the pandemic hit, and everyone turned to TikTok for entertainment, Wang knew he could use the video-sharing app to reach a whole new audience. As of July 13, Wang had 160.9K followers on TikTok -- where he's widely known as "Leon the Tutor." His page is brimming with videos on must-know formulas for taking the SAT/AC…

Educator's Company Relieves Pressures Of Pandemic Learning For Kids Across America
One student is learning computer coding, another is taking Yoga. One is studying Spanish and another is mastering how to read a clock. From learning the ABCs to studying for the LSAT, all are doing so online with tutors stationed around the world through Virtuo Tutors. The company was launched last year by Lauren Rosenblum, a learning specialist at a New York City private school, who saw a need for improvement in the education sector at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. “I love working with kids, especially through one-on-one intervention, which allows you to get to know them, be their…

PA High School College Fair 'Zoom Bombed' With Racist, Pornographic Images
A foreign hacker may be to blame for the racist and pornographic images that were broadcast during a Zoom college fair for Montgomery County high school students Friday, district officials said. The images were posted to the Harriton High School event attended by nearly 300 students, and shut down as soon as counselors were notified, the Lower Merion District said. The district announced a switch to full-remote learning for its high schools just this week, following a petition launched by students. District officials believe the event was set up without usual security measures. "Thi…

Here's Why This NJ District Is Going Against Governor's Back To School Directions
One Union County school district will begin the academic year with online learning only, going against the directions from Gov. Phil Murphy for in-person instruction. The Elizabeth School Board on Monday night voted to begin next month with remote classes after nearly 375 teachers refused to come back into the classroom over COVID-19 fears. UPDATE: Gov. Phil Murphy was expected to announce on Wednesday that some of New Jersey's public schools can start the academic year without in-person classes as long as they meet certain criteria, several news outlets report. Buildings w…

NJ Schools Closed For Remainder Of Year, HS Sports Cancelled
New Jersey's schools will remain closed for the remainder of the year, Gov. Phil Murphy announced Monday. Online learning will continue for the rest of the year "to protect the health of our children, our educators, and their families," he said. "Guided by safety and science, this is the best course of action." The NJSIAA also cancelled spring sports citing a lack of viable testing. Murphy ordered all schools closed on March 16 and transitioned to online learning. The governor extended closures twice but said there's still a chance classrooms would reopen before the end of the year. The …
