Police: Fleeing Route 208 Driver Dumps Sports Car In Stranger's Driveway
A North Haledon driver was captured after he led Wyckoff police on a chase off Route 208, pulled into a driveway and bailed out, authorities said.
Arben Alimi, 52, was with other occupants of his Mustang when police found them walking on nearby Goffle Hill Road in Hawthorne, Police Lt. Joseph Soto said.
A short time earlier, Officer Kevin Oldewurtel tried to stop the speeding sports car on southbound Route 208, Soto said.
Alimi kept going, however, pulling off the highway and into a driveway on nearby Robertson Road, he said.

Sleeping Couple, Dogs Get Out Before Fire Consumes Franklin Lakes Home
UPDATE: A Franklin Lakes couple who were asleep when a fire broke out escaped safely with their two dogs before their home burned to the ground, authorities said.
The fast-moving fire broke out in the 2½-story Cheyenne Drive home at 12:35 a.m. Monday, Police Capt. Robert Lyon said.
Police and firefighters found the 2,800-foot house fully engulfed, he said.
Firefighters from Wyckoff, Oakland, Mahwah, Waldwick and North Haledon also responded, along with both the Franklin Lakes and Wyckoff ambulance corps, the captain said.

A convicted killer who was paroled after only three years in state prison was captured in Brooklyn and charged with shooting and killing a Paterson father of 10 in the Silk City last month, authorities said.

A Passaic County man working as a union health plan administrator is facing federal charges for his role in a kickback tax evasion scheme, authorities said.
Jose Santa Maria, aka “Joe,” of North Haledon, served as a plan admin through a health and training fund-related company that provided admin services to a labor union, Acting U.S. Attorney Rachael A. Honig said.

An investment adviser from Passaic County stole $471,602 from two dozen investors he recruited for an unregulated commodities trading group, state authorities charged.

An intoxicated driver from Bloomingdale unsuccessfully tried to flee after his sedan slammed into two mailboxes, a street sign and a guard rail along a stretch of road in Franklin Lakes, authorities said.
Thomas Bleeker, 66, was hospitalized with undetermined injuries following the 2:30 p.m. crash on Sunday, Capt. Robert Lyon said.
