FDA Recalls Ground Cinnamon Over Lead Contamination
The FDA is recalling two brands of ground Cinnamon shipped out to several states due to elevated levels of lead. Both Advance Food International, Inc. of Maspeth, NY, and American Spices, LLC. of Ozone Park, NY, recalled the products Shahzada's Cinnamon powder was distributed to retailers in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and Massachusetts between Jan. 1 and May 24. AFI's powder was distributed across the NYC area between Dec. 1, 2023 and May 15. Dollar Tree Sold Lead-Infused Applesauce Pouches For Weeks After Recall, FDA Says
Despite a recall notice and multiple warnings from the Food and Drug Administration, Dollar Tree continued to sell applesauce pouches containing lead for weeks, federal officials say. Lead and cadmium have been found in dozens of popular brands of dark chocolate, according to a new study from Consumer Reports. Was your favorite brand included? Nationwide Recall Issued For Brand Of Blueberries Due To Levels Of Lead
A company has issued an urgent recall of blueberries sold in the United States due to the potential presence of lead levels above the FDA's recommended limits. BrandStorm Inc. announced the recall of two lots of its Natierra Organic Freeze-Dried Blueberry pouches on Thursday, July 14. Filters Handed Out By Newark Effective At Removing Lead, Officials Say
Gov. Phil Murphy announced Monday that an extensive round of preliminary testing revealed that water filters distributed by the city of Newark are at least 97 percent effective at bringing lead levels to below 10 parts per billion, well under the safe threshold of 15 parts per billion. The Essex County Improvement Authority is expected to issue $120 million in bonds to replace lead water lines serving most of the homes in Newark, sending an existing replacement program into overdrive in response to the city's ongoing water-quality crisis, officials said Monday in Newark. A member of the state Assembly is seeking donations of bottled water for residents of Newark who have been told to temporarily stop using tap water for cleaning and cooking due to unacceptably high levels of lead.
