Firefighters Quickly Douse Blaze In Hillsdale Home Under Renovation
Authorities are probing the cause of a pre-dawn fire Monday in a house undergoing renovations in Hillsdale. The call to the split-level residence on Kinderkamack Road at Lawrence Street came in at 5:11 a.m. Aug. 14, Hillsdale Fire Chief Dan Schuster said. It "burned through" to the second floor, the chief said in a release. "The fire was knocked down in less than 15 minutes and placed under control at 5:41 a.m.," Schuster said. No one was injured in the multi-alarm Hillside Avenue blaze, which broke out in the $2.7 million home in the north end of town shortly after 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 16, and instantly became fully involved, fire officials said. UPDATE: A pickup truck plowed into a Hillsdale convenience store Sunday night. The 51-year-old driver got out to go into the Quick Shop on Patterson Street off Hillsdale Avenue shortly after 8 p.m. when the 2011 Chevy began rolling, Police Capt. Sean Smith said. A popular Hillsdale firefighter was found dead in his SUV Thursday in the upper Hackensack River in River Vale after apparently suffering a heart attack, responders said.
