A crashed vehicle that took down a power line was found abandoned in Sussex County over the weekend, authorities said. The Byram Township Fire Department responded to the crash on Whitehall Hill Road alongside several local emergency crews around 12:45 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 29. After the power was cut by JCP&L, crews entered the vehicle with deployed airbags and found that it was empty. Fire crews in Sussex County were quick to douse a massive car fire that spread to a nearby home Sunday evening. The Byram Township firefighters responded to the blaze in the Brookwood section of town and confirmed that the fire had spread to the adjacent home around 4:40 p.m., the department said. A cyclist was airlifted with serious injuries after being hit by a deer in Sussex County Thursday night, authorities said. The deer hit the cyclist on Creek Road in Green Township just after 7 p.m., the local fire department said. Fire crews were quick to douse a roaring blaze that ripped through the attached garage of a Sussex County home before dawn Wednesday. Fire Tears Through Sussex County Home
A fire destroyed a Sussex County home Saturday morning. Flames were consuming the rear of the home from the basement to the attic when firefighters arrived at the Green Township home on Wolfs Corner around 11:15 a.m. A second-alarm was requested as firefighters arrived. A partial collapse of the deck was later reported. "We extend our thoughts and prayers to the homeowner during this difficult time as they try and recover and rebuild," the Green Township Fire Department said. The cause remains under investigation.
