Fort Lee police officers who shot and killed an aggressive and bloodied knife-wielding man in February 2023 have been cleared of any wrongdoing, the New Jersey Attorney General's Office announced. A state grand jury voted not to file any criminal charges against the Fort Lee officers who killed 42-year-old Mohamed Bounaouar, of Las Vegas, NV, who was fully naked when he lunged at them with a knife at a John Street apartment on Feb. 4, 2023, Attorney General Matthew Platkin said. Train Death Reported On Journal Square PATH tracks
A woman was struck and killed by a PATH train at Journal Square, authorities said. The person was struck by a westbound train and pronounced dead at the station in Jersey City shortly after midnight Monday, Jan. 22, said Lenis Valens of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. The authority's Emergency Services Unit, Jersey City firefighters and an EMS unit were among the responders, Valens said. UPDATE: A worker was seriously injured when an awning that he and others were dismantling in front of an apartment building in Hackensack collapsed on him Friday, authorities confirmed. A single-vehicle rollover crash Wednesday night downed utility wires on Route 17 in Paramus. The northbound highway was closed for a little over a half-hour after a vehicle slammed into a utility pole near Midland Avenue around 10:30 p.m. July 12. Custodian Finds Spent Ammo In Morris County Middle School Hallway
A custodian found a spent ammunition round in the hallway of a Morris County middle school, authorities said. The discovery was made at Chatham Middle School on Monday, May 1, according to local police. The shell casing was turned over to the principal and School Resource Officer Brian Stanton who immediately notified the police department. A driver who stuck to the GPS instructions got stuck on the railroad tracks in Ho-Ho-Kus, leading to delays Monday night of nearly an hour. Union City police officer Alex Ruperto has died of coronavirus, the department said. He was 52 years old. “Alex was kind, patient, soft-spoken and genuine," Chief Nichelle Luster said.
