Born in Yonkers, NY, Jonathan spent most of his life as a resident of Sussex County and lived in Crandon Lakes at the time of his passing, his obituary says.
Jonathan was a self-employed painter with a “quiet and reserved” nature — though he also had a distinct sense of humor, according to his memorial.
Jonathan loved rooting for the Pittsburg Steelers, playing video games, and spending time in the kitchen cooking up dishes while scrutinizing each and every detail.
But most importantly, Jonathan was a family man who will forever be remembered for the endless love he had for his son, Cameron M. Rivera.
“Heaven gained another angel,” reads a GoFundMe that had raised more than $4,100 before donations had been turned off.
“He was a son, brother, an uncle but more than anything…a truly devoted father.”
In addition to his son, Jonathan is survived by his loving mother, Elba and his stepfather Russell Sweeten; his sister Omayra and her husband Jeffrey Johnson; his brother Christian Vazquez and his significant other Tammy Booker as well as his partner Jackie and many more.
Jonathan’s visitation was held at the Iliff-Ruggiero Funeral Home in Newton on Tuesday, Jan. 3 with funeral services scheduled for Saturday, July 22 at the First Pentecostal Church of Dover.
“If you were blessed to know him….I know he holds a special place in your heart,” reads the fundraiser.
