Anthony Rossi, a Republican, was elected the new mayor of the township, defeating Harry Shortway and Sally Rinker with 53.3 percent of the vote. Rossi will be replacing Howard Burrell, who served one term.
A native of New York City, Rossi moved to Vernon following the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, raising his three children in the township. Rossi previously worked for Citibank and JPMorgan Chase.
Joining Rossi on the township council will be Bradley Sparta and William Higgins who were elected to two four-year terms, defeating Margaret Distasi and Jessica DeBenedetto, who ran on a slate with Rossi, was elected to a two-year term.
