Critics are mixed on the Disney movie, which has a 46% rating at Rotten Tomatoes and a 47 rating at Metacritic. The film stars Rachel Zegler, a Clifton native, as the titular heroine and Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen.

Zegler received praise for her performance with Variety calling her a "shining supernova," while another critic called her "incandescent," saying she sells her performance with "conviction and heart."

But not all critics are on board. The BBC said "the story is cluttered, the tone is muddled, and the pacing is off" while the Guardian said it was "exhaustingly awful" and that Zegler and Gadot give "the dullest performance of their lives."

The $270 million movie is expected to make $50 million at the box office opening weekend, according to Deadline.

The film generated numerous controversies, including criticism over the casting of Zegler, who is Latina, for playing a character described as having skin as white as snow, and over its portrayal of dwarfs, with Peter Dinklage calling "Snow White" a "backward story."

Zegler also enflamed fans by criticizing the original 1937 Disney cartoon as being outdated.
