Maccagnano worked at Hudson Community Enterprises in Jersey City for 27 years and competed at the Special Olympics for 40 years, being named Athlete of the Year in 2019, according to his obituary at the Jorge Rivera Funeral Home.  Known as "Uncle," Maccagnano also bowled for the Ability League at Hudson Lanes.
