Bedroom Electrical Equipment Caused Toms River House Fire That Killed Two Cats: Firefighters
A family of two people were without a home and two of their cats died in a house fire in Toms River, authorities said. Firefighters responded to the home on South Gateway at around 9:05 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 1, the Toms River Bureau of Fire Prevention said in a news release. No people were in the house during the two-alarm fire. Crews found heavy smoke and fire coming from a second-story bedroom. Three people were arrested in separate incidents involving children in Atlantic City, authorities said. Haneef Bashir, 45, of Atlantic City, was taken into custody on Friday, Aug. 30, the city's police department said in a news release. Officers responded to a report of a man pointing a gun at children on the 100 block of North New Jersey Avenue at around 9:05 p.m. Investigators said several teenagers were on a porch when a neighbor came up to them and pointed a gun. Jay, of Hillsborough, died on Friday, Aug. 30, leaving behind his wife, Jennette and their three children, Jordan, James, and Joe. A 59-year-old boater was hospitalized after being struck by the propeller of a boat after being ejected from his own and sucked under water in Ocean County over Labor Day Weekend, police said. Tolls are going up on four Delaware River Port Authority bridges between New Jersey and Pennsylvania on Sunday, Sept. 1 for the first time since 2011. Students and staff from a New Jersey college center have cracked a hot missing persons case from across the country.
