Boy, 12, Dies From Tree Falling In Lawrence Township Backyard: Police
A New Jersey boy was killed when a tree fell on him in a backyard, authorities said. Lucas Schwartz, 12, was identified as the victim of the Eldridge Avenue incident in Lawrence Township on a GoFundMe page. Police said he'd been playing with a friend in the backyard of a home when gusty winds blew the tree over, and it fell onto him around 12:09 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 14. A 59-year-old boater was hospitalized after being struck by the propeller of a boat after being ejected from his own and sucked under water in Ocean County over Labor Day Weekend, police said. The Neshanic Station man was heading east on Manahawkin Bay in Long Beach on a personal watercraft when his boat was struck by a 28-foot vessel heading north around 4:35 p.m., New Jersey State Police Sgt. Sundown Swimmers At Unguarded NJ Beach Rescued
Three swimmers were rescued while in the water after sunset in Ocean Grove, officials said. Rescuers were called to a swimmer in distress near the pier at the Main Avenue beach at around 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 28, the ANSWER team said in a Facebook post. The report was quickly upgraded to three swimmers in distress. When emergency crews arrived, they saw the three swimmers screaming for help. First responders rescued a watercraft from the Delaware River in Burlington County on Sunday evening, June 30, authorities said. At about 5 p.m., New Jersey State Police troopers responded to a report of a personal watercraft stuck on a sandbar near Hawk Island in Delanco Township, according to Sgt. Jeffrey Lebron, a NJSP spokesman. The craft was dislodged from the sandbar and escorted to a marina, Lebron said. No injuries were reported. The incident remains under investigation, and no additional information is available, he said.

'Cowboy Hero' Dies After Lightning Strike While Warning Kids On NJ Beach About Storm: Reports
A Toms River man died after a reported lightning strike on an Ocean County beach, authorities said. Patrick Dispoto, 59, was found unconscious on the beach near J Street at around 7:38 p.m. on Sunday, June 23, a Seaside Park Police Department spokesperson told Daily Voice. He was rushed to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. Police said Dispoto had no visible signs of injuries. A Mercer County man was critically injured in a late-night crash in Manchester Township, authorities said. A solar eclipse on Monday, April 8 is closing schools across New Jersey. Last month, Livingston Public Schools in Essex County announced an early dismissal in anticipation of children looking at the sun. Since then, others have announced they too will close early. Fire Doused At Hackensack Company That Makes Hand Sanitizer Stands
Hackensack firefighters made quick work of a Wednesday morning blaze at a company that makes metal stands for hand sanitizers used in medical facilities, among other products. The call to the Testrite plant on South Newman Street came in at 8:17 a.m. after the fire broke out in a malfunctioning dust-collecting machine, city firefighters said. Authorities on Sunday suspended a search for a kayaker who fell into Raritan Bay the day before.
