Following fierce storms swept through the region Tuesday evening, Aug. 6, many roadways were still flooded and wet, making for treacherous commutes Wednesday, Aug. 7.

The organs of a U.S. Army sergeant from the Jersey Shore who was killed in a motorcycle crash will help four other people live.
Dennis Andrew Vaccaro, 27, crashed on Tuesday, June 14, in Ocean Township, and was kept alive so he could donate his organs. Further details on the crash were not immediately known.

A 35-year-old woman from Atlantic County is accused of stealing more than $175,000 from a senior living community she planned events for in Ocean County, authorities said.
Alicia K. Campbell, of Mays Landing, was charged last week with theft, forgery, falsifying records and credit card fraud, all in connection with her former position as Lifestyle Director of the Greenbriar Oceanaire Community & Golf Course, a senior living community in Ocean Township (Waretown), they said.

An accused bank robber nicknamed "Crazy Mike" evaded police for nearly three months with the help of family members, according to officials.
Michael Gaboff, 36, of Millstone, was arrested in connection with the robbery of a Franklin Township bank on Aug. 22, said Somerset County Prosecutor John P. McDonald in a release Monday, Dec. 12.
His parents, 66-year-old Alan Gaboff and 60-year-old Sharon Gaboff, and his brother, 23-year-old Jesse Gaboff, all of Millstone, were charged with hindering, McDonald noted.

A Jersey Shore man who was caught with a handful of phony federal agent IDs in his own name admitted also having a homemade rifle and a silencer.
Jeffrey Backlund, 57, of Waretown, took a deal from the government rather than face trial, pleading guilty on Wednesday, April 27, to illegally possessing all of them, U.S. Attorney Philip R. Sellinger said.
Backlund was arrested after a warranted search prompted by a domestic disturbance in September 2020 turned up “a number of firearms and imitation federal identification badges,” Sellinger said.

Barton Cross-Tierney 2nd, 31, of Ocean Township, pleaded guilty to endangering the welfare of a child and exhibiting obscenity to a minor, Acting Monmouth County Prosecutor Lori Linskey said on Wednesday, Feb. 9.
