A tractor-trailer caught fire in Edison, shutting down most lanes of a busy road during morning rush hour, officials said. The fire happened on Route 1 south of the intersection with Grandview Avenue on Thursday, Sept. 5, the state Department of Transportation said. An alert was posted about the incident at 8:28 a.m. The NJDOT reported all northbound lanes of Route 1 were closed. Three southbound lanes were shut down, leaving only one lane open. Police ID Bicyclist Killed On Black Horse Pike, Police Say
A bicyclist was killed in a crash on Black Horse Pike on Friday, May 17, police said. Arthur Herz, 61, of Mays Landing entered the westbound lanes on a bicycle around 8:20 p.m. when he "made impact with" a 21-year-old man's Jeep Cherokee, Hamilton Township police said. It happened near milepost 45.5. Herz, who was not wearing a helmet was pronounced dead at the scene. For seven hours, the man stood on the ledge of the I-295 overpass, closing Route 42 below in both directions on Thursday afternoon, April 4 near Exit 14. "We were able to get the individual some help," said New Jersey State Trooper, who declined to provide further details. Camden County, State Launch Initiative To Reduce Fatal Crashes On White Horse Pike
The Camden County Prosecutor’s Office and the New Jersey Attorney General are set to launch a traffic safety initiative to cut down on crashes and improve pedestrian safety along the White Horse Pike. Last year, there were seven fatal crashes on the state highway. These crashes resulted in eight deaths with five being pedestrians and one being a bicyclist, the county said.
