Three people were seriously hurt in a weekend crash in Gloucester County. New Jersey State troopers responded on Saturday, March 11 at 3:16 a.m. to the crash in Deptford. Based on a preliminary investigation, a Toyota SUV was disabled in the left northbound lane facing south when it was involved in a head-on collision with a Honda SUV, State Police said. UPDATE: Authorities identified a civilian killed during a struggle in which a South Jersey police officer was shot as a 24-year-old local resident. Ring video from the Gloucester County neighborhood reportedly captured a significant portion of the incident. Officer Critical After Shootout That Left Suspect Dead In South Jersey
A South Jersey police officer was in critical condition after a shootout that left him wounded and a suspect dead on Friday, March 10, according to authorities and those who knew the officer. More than $9,000 had been raised on a GoFundMe for Deptford Police Officer Bobby Shisler as of 11 p.m. The shootout occurred around 12:45 p.m. near Doman Avenue in Deptford, according to New Jersey Attorney General Matthew J. Chicken Waste Spill Causes HazMat Situation Along South Jersey Highway
A trailer hauling chicken waste products crashed, spilling its contents all over Route 55 and causing a HazMat situation in Gloucester County on Monday, Feb. 27. The northbound side of the roadway was closed in Deptford from mile marker 59.2 to the Route 42 interchange following the 9 a.m. crash. The roadway had reopened as of 1:45 p.m., but crews were still on scene for cleanup. HazMat crews, the New Jersey State Police, NJDOT, and multiple fire departments were on scene. Environmental services were notified and were monitoring the incident. No injuries were reported.

The death of a South Jersey man in a confrontation with police is under a mandatory review by an arm of the state Attorney General's Office, authorities said. Daniel Nevius Sr., 55, of Sicklerville, was shot and killed in a wooded area of the Gloucester County town of Deptford on Sunday, Jan. 22. Suspect Vandalized Multiple Churches In South Jersey: Police
Police in Camden County arrested a 40-year-old man for vandalizing churches in two counties, authorities said. Peter A. Sirolli, 40, of Deptford, was charged with arson, criminal mischief, bias intimidation, desecration of a sacred object and other charges in three municipalities, police and the Camden County prosecutor said. Gloucester Township police said a witness saw the suspect throw a rock at Holy Child Parish, St. Teresa's Church located at 13 E. Evesham Road in Runnemede. The man who shot and killed his ex-girlfriend before killing himself was a retired Atlantic City police officer, authorities confirmed. William Beattie, 47, retired from the police force on Feb. 1, 2010, according to public records. Police were called to Ogden Road in Deptford at 6:50 p.m. Monday, Nov. 28. An Atlantic County man killed himself after fatally shooting his Gloucester County girlfriend, authorities said. Police were called to Ogden Road in Deptford at 6:50 p.m. Monday, Nov. 28. UPDATE: A man from Philadelphia and another from South Jersey admitted their roles in a major drug trafficking ring that dealt meth and fentanyl, federal authorities said. Kevin Salmon, 25, had 5½ pounds of meth and two guns in his home when it was raided by authorities, U.S. Attorney for New Jersey Philip R. Sellinger said. Salmon had served as a courier for a major drug-trafficking network that "distributed large quantities of methamphetamine and fentanyl," the U.S. attorney said. Driver Charged In Fatal Hit-Run Crash: Report
A 25-year-old driver from Gloucester County has been charged in a fatal pedestrian crash, NJ Advance Media reported. Matthew Jefferson, of Deptford, then allegedly fled the scene of the crash, the outlet said. Killed was Paul Margand, 60, of Deptford Township, who was walking westbound on Cattel Road in Deptford at about 9:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 1, police said. Woman Arrested In South Jersey Bank Heist: Police
A 33-year-old South Jersey woman was arrested in a bank heist over the weekend, authorities said. Kiara Pierce, of Sicklerville, passed a note to the teller at the Republic Bank on Deptford Center Road, then fled in a car after receiving a certain amount of money around 1:50 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 21, Deptford Township police said. The suspect vehicle was spotted by a patrol officer, who pulled the vehicle over and arrested Pierce, police said. She was charged with robbery, theft and terroristic threats.
