A skunk in Mercer County has tested positive for rabies, authorities said. The skunk was found near Van Dyke Road in Hopewell Township on Saturday, Nov. 23, the township's health department said in a news release on Tuesday, Nov. 26. Deer Chased By Dog Dies After Crashing Through Window Of River Vale Home
It came in as a possible burglary in progress but turned out to be a horrific accident. Sometime before dawn Wednesday, a deer being chased by a dog crashed through the window of a River Vale home, police said. The gravely wounded deer eventually died, Capt. Chris Bulger said. Animal control removed the carcass from the Coopers Lane home, he said. “The dog appeared to be fine and the deer showed no signs of injury from the dog,” the captain said. Two people were hospitalized after being attacked by a family dog in South Brunswick on Tuesday, police said. A man in his 50s and woman in her 60s were bitten by the family dog, a pitbull, at a house on the 100 block of New Road, local police said. The victims were taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, authorities said. Their conditions were not known as of Wednesday morning. Police in Central Jersey were responding to reports of a coyote chasing people. Middletown police were called about 10:30 a.m. about a coyote "running in the streets," hat was suspected to be rabid because of its erratic behavior.
