The Hightstown Engine Company responded to the “significant” blaze in a patch of woods between Monroe and Twin Rivers in East Windsor, the department said.
Crews ran hundreds of feet of supply lines and spent hours dousing the widespread fire.
“The fire was wind-driven eastbound so companies took a two-pronged attack chasing from behind and attacking it head-on,” the HEC said.
Several local fire companies also assisted, including the NJ Forest Fire division, which stayed at the scene for several hours to overhaul hot spots, authorities said.
