As of midnight on Thursday, the Pennsylvania Department of Health confirmed there were 11,763 additional positive cases of COVID-19, bringing the statewide total to 398,600. This was the highest daily increase of COVID-19 cases since the epidemic began in March, state officials said.
The trend in the 14-day moving average of number of hospitalized patients per day has increased by nearly 3,600 since the end of September, what state officials were characterizing as an alarming upward trend.
As of Friday, there were 5,071 individuals hospitalized in Pennsylvania with COVID-19. Of that number, 1,065 patients were in intensive care units.

The daily increase of 11,406, reported at midnight on Wednesday, was the state's previous highest daily count, bringing the statewide positive COVD-19 case total to 386,837.
