The Mercer County Homicide Task Force and Trenton police are investigating the shootings that occurred at about 9:30 a.m. in Trenton, according to Prosecutor Angelo J. Onofri.
Trenton police received a Shot Spotter activation for multiple rounds in the first block of Cleveland Avenue, Onofri said.
Patrol officers found two victims. One was pronounced dead at the scene, the other was taken to Capital Health Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead a short time later, the prosecutor said.
The two fatalities put Trenton on track to surpass last year's record number of fatal shootings.
In all of 2020, Trenton suffered 40 murders, according to the Mercer County Prosecutor's Office: A total of 36 of the confirmed murders were attributed to fatal shootings.
In the first 10 months of this year, there have been 32 confirmed homicides of which 31 were fatal shootings.
No arrests had been made in Friday's shootings An investigation is ongoing.
