13-Year-Old Drowns Off NJ Beach Despite Rescue Efforts, Police Say A 13-year-old swimmer drowned off a Jersey Shore beach Friday evening, Aug. 15, despite rescue efforts, police said. At approximately 6:36 p.m., the Belmar Police Department received several 911 calls reporting a swimmer in distress off the 8th Avenue beach, police said. When officers arrived, it was relayed to dispatch that one person was out of the water, but another juvenile swimmer was missing, according to police. Sundown Swimmers At Unguarded NJ Beach Rescued Three swimmers were rescued while in the water after sunset in Ocean Grove, officials said. Rescuers were called to a swimmer in distress near the pier at the Main Avenue beach at around 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 28, the ANSWER team said in a Facebook post. The report was quickly upgraded to three swimmers in distress. When emergency crews arrived, they saw the three swimmers screaming for help.
