3-Alarm Fire Leaves 15 People Displaced In Elizabeth Five families comprised of 15 people were displaced following a fire in an apartment building in Elizabeth on Friday, June 7, authorities said. At 4:15 p.m., firefighters responded to the building at 1035 Elizabeth Avenue, Ruby Contreras, a spokeswoman for the city said.  The heavy blaze necessitated firefighters to call a second and third alarm, requesting additional units to the scene, Contreras said.  No injuries were reported and the fire declared under control after two hours, Contreras said. Multiple fundraisers have been set up to assist those displaced by the blaze.&…

'Miracle of Morristown:' How Woman Who Lost Leg After Being Struck By Train Saved Her Own Life Lisa Fitzgerald was two weeks shy of her birthday and commuting to New York when she lost her leg after being struck by train in Morristown on Saturday, May 4.  Fitzgerald was on the Morristown platform with the injury when responders arrived at the scene, just before 7:25 p.m., a spokesperson for NJ Transit said.  She saved her own life by pulling herself off the train tracks, onto the platform and screaming for help, according to a fundraiser set up to support Fitzgerald. Single Mom Struck, Killed By Vehicle In Maplewood, Prosecutor Says A 28-year-old Irvington resident was killed after she was struck by a vehicle in Maplewood on Monday, May 13, authorities said. At 9:10 a.m., Maria Ganzhi Zhao was struck by a vehicle on the 1400 block of Springfield Avenue and pronounced dead at the scene, the Essex County Prosecutor's Office said.  Zhao, a native of Ecuador, was a single mother who is survived by her two daughters, Noemi, 7 and Genesis, 9 months, according to a fundraiser set up to support the family.  A viewing will be held on Saturday, May 18 at Mt.
