Sun Sets On Gillian's Wonderland Pier: Hundreds Show Up For One Last Ride Gillian's Wonderland Pier shut down the rides one last time on Sunday, Oct. 13. Hundreds of people showed up this weekend to say goodbye to the Ocean City. amusement park as it closed after 94 years in business. In August, Mayor Jay Gillian, the park's owner, announced he'd be terminating the multi-year lease in the weeks to come. This was it. 'It's Sad To Let Go': Amusement Park Closing After 94 Years Of Fun On Ocean City Boardwalk An Ocean City amusement park is shutting down after creating nearly a century of summer memories for children and families. Mayor Jay Gillian, the owner of Gillian's Wonderland Pier, said he'll terminate the multi-year lease for the theme park in a couple of months. He made the announcement in a letter posted on the pier's Facebook page on Friday, Aug. 9.
