17-Year-Old Swimmer Brings Newark Police To Passaic River: Cops A 17-year-old was swimming in the Passaic River on the morning of Tuesday, Sept. 10, authorities said. At 7:50 a.m., Newark police responded to Bridge Street and McCarter Highway on a report of the teen in the water, Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé said. Police made contact with the swimmer when he emerged from the water, Fragé said. The swimmer is reportedly uninjured, Fragé said. This incident remains under investigation, Fragé said.

Several Shark Sightings Reported Near Cape May's Coast Several sharks have been spotted off the coast of Cape May in recent weeks, according to reports. A shark was spotted near the beach in Cape May Point at around 3 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 5, 6abc Action News reported. One beachgoer said the shark was about six feet long. The sighting caused swimmers to run onto the shore and lifeguards kept people out of the water for about a half hour, according to Wildwood Video Archive. Fink, 31, won the silver medal in the men's 100m breaststroke on Sunday, July 28, missing out on the gold in a photo finish. Fink is the oldest American to be a first-time medal winner in swimming since the 1904 Olympics. And he does that all that while balancing a full-time job as an assistant project manager for an engineering firm in Atlanta, GA. Fink grew up in Morristown and graduated from the Pingry School in Basking Ridge. Following graduation, Fink swam for the University of Georgia. …

The NJ Department of Environmental Protection said only that a water sample from Beachwood Beach West exceeded the water quality standard. Middletown police received a call about a man who had been pulled from the water at around 9 a.m. on Monday, July 15, the department said in a news release.
